Otso Toivinen is a Finnish virtual racing driver who most recently competed in eVirtual with BMW i Highwind Racing. He has previously driven in VWRS, FV2, FV3 and the FV2 Winter Series. He finished runner-up in the latter two categories, while he won the rookie championship in the FV2.

Career

FV3

Toivonen started in career in FV3 when he joined AutoInternational for the final two rounds of the 2015 FV3 Series. Replacing fellow Finn Joni Attrui, Toivonen retired from his first feature race and could only manage 24th in the sprint. For the final round of the championship, however, he took 12th in the feature race, scoring his first point. 6th place followed in the sprint race and Toivonen finished the season with 6 points.

Toivonen moved to Johansson Motorsport for 2016, and started the season with his maiden pole. He retired from the feature race however. He took his first podium in the Spanish feature race, but that was his only points paying finish from the first five races. He returned to the podium in Germany and took his first win in the Netherlands. With two rounds remaining, Toivonen had ranked up two wins and three other podiums. However, he finished out of the points seven times. Toivonen was second in the championship at that point: about twenty points behind championship leader and teammate Zander Brynildsen, with just a few points ahead of his other teammate Maximilian Thunström. In the penultimate round, Toivonen took a second place and a points finish, while Brynildsen could only take a third before retiring from the sprint race. Brynildsen retired again in the feature race in Sweden, leaving Toivonen just 3 points away from the championship. However, he retired from the final race, and Brynildsen took the championship. Toivonen moved to FV2 after that season.

FV2 Winter Series

Toivonen raced for Team Holmqvist during his only season in the FV2 Winter Series. Toivonen took points in his first two starts, before winning the Swedish feature race. He took an emotional win at his home race, before a third win followed in the sprint race at Germany. He took third in Romania, but was only third in the championship, his teammate Alexander McLaughlin and future Franklin test driver Rodolfo de la Fuente ahead of him with one round remaining. He took pole, drawing him level with McLaughlin, but could only manage fifth in the race. A poor race for de la Fuente, however, meant Toivonen moved into second in the championship, just two points off his teammate. It wasn't to be though, with himself and McLaughlin retiring from the sprint race, leaving the road clear for de la Fuente to win the championship. Toivonen didn't return to the series, partly because it was never run again.

FV2

Toivonen moved up to FV2 with Bronislav Competition for 2017. He scored points on his debut and for the next two races, but a long points drought followed. Returning to the points in Britain, he took his maiden win in the sprint race in Belgium. He took a podium in Italy, and a few more points finishes came before the end of the season. Toivonen finished 11th in the championship, just behind fellow rookies Steven Kasami and old rival Brynildsen. Despite this, he took the rookies championship. He was set to remain at Bronislav for 2018, but was moved to O'Connell Racing after the team were added to the championship.

With his new team, Toivonen had a modest year. He struggled at the start of the year but took points in the Austrian feature race. The next day in the sprint race he took first. More points finishes followed, scattered throughout the season. He took pole in Slovakia and came second in the race after losing the lead at the start. He ended the season with a podium in Italy. Overall he took 78 points and three podiums, more then his teammate Pietro Silvestri. Despite this, he did not stay with the team after both them and the FV2 series folded.
