Mathershaw was the constructor identity used by motorsport organisation Mathershaw Technology for their 2013 entry to the Formula Virtual World Championship, and again when the team entered a partnership with DS Automobiles as DS Mathershaw between 2016 and 2019.

The team's first season saw them compete with Mercedes customer backing, winning their first race in Canada with Adrien Simon. In 2016, Simon clinched the Driver's Championship with the team, while 2016 and 2018 saw the team win the Constructors' Championship.

Independent Entry (2013)

For the inaugural season of Formula Virtual, Mathershaw Technology entered as a privateer with customer support from Mercedes-AMG, competing as Barclays AMG Mathershaw Technology, with Frenchman Adrien Simon and German Karl Beckenbauer as drivers. The team won two races, and finished in third in the Constructor’s Championship. During the season, it was announced that the team would run Liverpool Football Club’s entry to Formula Virtual in 2014, ending Mathershaw’s first spell in the series.

Partnership with DS Automobiles (2016-2019)

After two seasons, the partnership with Liverpool concluded, and Mathershaw Technology signed a deal to compete with works backing from DS Automobiles, competing as DS Automobiles Team Mathershaw, with the Mathershaw constructor name returning for the first time in 3 years as DS Mathershaw.

2016 season

The 2016 car made its debut in late 2015, with much of the DS Automobiles powertrain development completed using an adapted Liverpool chassis as a test mule. The extended development cycle led to significant success, with the team winning 10 of the season’s 18 races with Adrien Simon and Monégasque rookie Olen Inman, with Simon taking the Driver’s Championship and Inman second. The team won the Constructor’s title comfortably, finishing 149 points ahead of nearest challengers Meteor.

2017 season

After the 2016 victories, DS Mathershaw could only manage three wins during the season, with the year almost entirely dominated by Downton. The team did however finish a comfortable if distant second, a particular highlight being a maiden victory for Estonian rookie Allar Kangur at the 2017 United States V-Prix.

2018 season

The 2018 Championship brought further success in one of the closest Formula Virtual seasons to date, with the team winning their second Constructor’s Championship 20 points ahead of Downton and taking 11 of 18 wins. The year also saw the emergence of Allar Kangur as a serious title challenger, with him taking 6 of those wins over his team-mate Simon. However, he could only manage second in the standings, three points off eventual champion Nathaniel Powers, with four retirements to the Brit’s single failure to finish.

2019 season

Similarly to the year following their first titles, DS Mathershaw fell back slightly, emerging as only the third fastest team behind Downton and Franklin. Despite this, Adrien Simon took two victories. Midway through the season, it was announced that the partnership with DS Automobiles would not continue, and that Mathershaw Technology had instead signed a deal to compete as the Porsche factory team for 2020.

Racing History - Formula Virtual

Vauxhall engines and Liverpool Sponsorship (2014-2015)

For 2014, Mathershaw secured a contract with Vauxhall and Liverpool Football Club, with the team rebranding as Liverpool V-Prix Racing. Simon and Beckenbauer were retained for 2014, and results remained encouraging, with five victories (two for Beckenbauer and three for Simon) and the team finishing second in the Constructors' Championship. Arthur Lapierre was appointed Team Principal mid-season, with Mathershaw stepping back to a solely technical role.

The 2015 season saw Simon and Beckenbauer start a third season each with the team and Downton arrive as technical partner. Despite only scoring a single victory, the team once more finished in third in the Constructors' Championship.

Mid-season, Mathershaw announced that their sponsorship deal with Liverpool would conclude at the end of the season, with Vauxhall-backed Beckenbauer also signing a contract with Ocelot for 2016. Shortly afterwards, DS Automobiles bought a stake in the team, with Kip Maxwell racing for the second half of 2015 to replace the outgoing Beckenbauer.
