GP1 Motorsport is an Icelandic virtual racing team which made it's debut in the 2023 eVirtual World Championship. The team also currently competes in the 2024 Mazda MX5 Challenge.

Origins

GP1 Motorsport was originally formed in October 2023 by Kristjan Einer with the goal of helping primarily Scandinavian drivers / Northern European drivers (Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish) to offer a platform and give them a fair chance in virtual motorsport. The goal is also to organize at least one team in each class in order to provide the drivers with perfect preparation and support.

Ownership

The team is owned entirely by Motorsport Association from Iceland (MAFI).

Racing history - eVirtual

2023 season

The team was able to secure a place for the 2023 eVirtual World Championship and was thus one of three new teams. As the approval for a free place came late - the team did not have much choice for a powertrain partner. Nevertheless, the team received approval from Cadillac as a manufacturer and took over the partnership for the 2023 season.

The first season was successful from the team's point of view. With two podium places, one pole position and 8th place in the team ranking - it exceeded expectations. The fact that there were only two DNF's also spoke for Cadillac's reliability. Nevertheless, Cadillac ended the partnership at the end of the season. Cadillac did not give an official reason, but it is assumed that the lack of a win in the season was the decisive factor.

In the middle of the summer break - it is still unclear who the new partner for the coming season will be.
