Nelson Kray (born 5 August 1992) is a virtual racing driver from Auckland, New Zealand. He currently races in the 2024 VW Jetta Challenge for Geomijul Co. International, after he switched to GT cars after competing for a single season in the 2016 Virtual Oceania-Asia Racing Series.
Personal life
Kray was mute until the age of seven, which was later revealed to have been caused by trauma at birth. Former prime minister of New Zealand - Sir Robert Muldoon - was admitted to hospital after falling seriously ill, where he died on the day Kray was born. Being such a high profile patient, this caused a shortage of staff and Kray's birth was supervised by a single junior doctor and a cleaner; Kray was subsequently dropped on his face into a cleaning bucket. Kray was born with heterochromia; he has one blue and one green eye.
Kray's family own a sheep farm, close to where he grew up near Auckland, New Zealand. He still tends to his sheep when he is not racing and was quoted as saying - presumably after the age of seven - "sheep are my one true passion". Due to this, he races with a sheep on his helmet.
