The following constructors and drivers are currently under contract to compete in the 2023 World Championship. All teams compete with tyres supplied by Pirelli. Each team is required to enter at least two drivers, one for each of the two mandatory cars.
Team changes
To offset the costs of their new power train department, Red Bull actively sought teams to run their engines, combining the deals with a driver loan. Both Haas and Williams took Red Bull up on this deal, taking on the RBPT engine. Alfa Romeo also approached Red Bull regarding an engine, offering a substantial sum for the power unit without a driver loan. As engine manufacturers can only supply four teams however, this meant Red Bull stopped supplying engines to sister team AlphaTauri, citing the deal with Alfa Romeo outweighed the cost of purchasing an engine for AlphaTauri to use. The Italian outfit reverted to Ferrari power, last used when the team was Toro Rosso in 2016.
Aston Martin parted ways with Mercedes after 14 seasons (including previous incarnations of the team; Force India and Racing Point), securing a deal with Ferrari for engines in 2024.
Driver changes
Daniel Ricciardo left McLaren after two seasons with the team. He had a contract to drive for the team in 2023, but it was terminated during the 2022 championship by mutual agreement. Sergio Pérez was signed from Red Bull to replace him, returning to McLaren after 9 seasons, having raced there for one year in 2013. In response - having determined none of their junior drivers were suitably ready for promotion - Red Bull signed Ricciardo, the Australian returning to the team having departed after the 2018 season.
Red Bull signed Oscar Piastri to their junior academy, and loaned him out to Haas as part of their combined engine deal - replacing Mick Schumacher. This deal was also taken up by Williams, who were loaned Yuki Tsunoda in place of Alexander Albon after Red Bull decided to bring him back to AlphaTauri. Schumacher meanwhile cut his ties with Ferrari, striking his own deal to race with Williams, replacing Nicholas Latifi who left Formula One.
Fernando Alonso decided to leave Alpine after two seasons and instead switch to Alfa Romeo, replacing Zhou Guanyu. Alpine subsequently signed Pierre Gasly from AlphaTauri to replace the Spaniard, forming an all-French line-up with Esteban Ocon. Having lost their lead driver in Gasly, Red Bull approached Sebastian Vettel about a return to the team he started his career with, in a coaching role to help Albon. Having endured a difficult 2022 with Aston Martin, Vettel accepted the approach, with the British team signing Zhou in as his replacement.
